We are happy to share that Oxylabs' pro bono initiative, Project 4β, has partnered with Olivia Martin, a PhD student in Economics at Stanford University's School of Humanities and Sciences. Olivia's research focuses on evaluating compliance with California's new rental security deposit law.

A Powerful Tool for Research

Through the collaboration with Project 4β, Olivia Martin received free access to Oxylabs' Web Scraper API. This tool enables her to bypass anti-scraping systems and extract large volumes of data from even the most complex websites—an essential capability for her research.

Oxylabs’ solution has been critical to my research project evaluating the impact of changes in rental security deposit laws on renters. The tool is very easy to use and integrate into my data pipelines, and the team has been extremely responsive and supportive. I hope that the research I conduct using this tool will help inform policymakers on the impacts of this type of regulation.

Olivia Martin, PhD student in Economics at Stanford University's School of Humanities and Sciences

Olivia Martin is pursuing a JD at Stanford Law School and a PhD in economics at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. She graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Olivia aspires to help governments better collect and use data to design and implement sustainable, equitable and evidence-based policy. Olivia led the research and analysis efforts at USAFacts, a not-for-profit, nonpartisan civic initiative dedicated to increasing the availability of government data to drive fact-based discussion. She also helped Ballmer Group philanthropy develop a new portfolio of talent-related investments. At Stanford, she served as the chair of Stanford in Government, one of the university’s largest student groups. Her research has been published in a peer-reviewed journal, and she was a recipient of the Anna Laura Myers Prize for Outstanding Honors Thesis in Economics.

4β also partners with members from Northwestern University, the University of Edinburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and many others.
