We are pleased to announce that Oxylabs’ pro bono initiative, Project 4β, has partnered with the Center for Monitoring, Analysis, and Strategy (CeMAS), a Germany-based nonprofit that equips society to recognize and counter anti-democratic movements.
The Center for Monitoring, Analysis, and Strategy (CeMAS) is a nonprofit think tank based in Germany that brings together expertise in psychology, linguistics, social sciences, and data science to study anti-democratic movements. Its work focuses on conspiracy ideologies, disinformation, antisemitism, and right-wing extremism, combining systematic monitoring of digital platforms with innovative research methods.
CeMAS operates at the intersection of science, journalism, and civil society, translating research into practical insights and actionable recommendations for policymakers, media, and NGOs. By detecting extremist and disinformation trends at an early stage, CeMAS equips society to respond effectively to current challenges and future crises.
Through Project 4β, CeMAS received free access to Oxylabs’ Web Scraper API to strengthen its monitoring capabilities. A current research project focuses on threats to Pride events in Germany, where the tool is used to find relevant articles on Google News and scrape their content. From these articles, the team extracts structured data on attacks against Pride attendees, far-right counter-events, and the size and affiliations of groups from the far-right milieu present at such counter-events.
This information forms the basis for a forthcoming research paper that will document the mobilization potential of right-wing extremist actors in the context of Pride events and compare it with findings from the previous year.
At Project 4β, we believe real change happens when technology empowers those who defend democracy, expose corruption, and challenge disinformation. Alongside CeMAS, we support a growing network of investigative journalism and civil society organizations, including Bellingcat, Global Witness, InSight Crime, The Pulitzer Center, Debunk.org, and many others.
Our initiative also brings together leading academics from institutions such as Stanford University, Northwestern University, the University of Edinburgh, to name a few. Together, these partnerships show the scale of impact that free access to advanced web intelligence tools can create.
We invite academics, NGOs, NPOs, and civil society groups to join Project 4β and use these resources to advance their missions. If web intelligence could empower your research, contact us by filling our form or via 4beta@oxylabs.io.
